The nine to twelve age group sits in an interesting middle ground. These children are too old for baby toys and toddler play but not quite teenagers yet. They have developed strong individual interests, longer attention spans, and a much higher bar for what counts as genuinely cool or impressive. Shopping for them requires a bit more thought, but when you get it right, the results are fantastic because children at this age get deeply invested in the things they love.
Some of the most popular toy choices for nine to twelve year olds in Nigeria include remote control and big toy cars, science and robotics kits, LEGO Technic and advanced building sets, Rubik’s Cubes, board games like Monopoly and Scrabble, and arts and craft sets for children who lean creative. Science kits for ten and twelve-year-olds in particular are a strong choice at this age because they offer real experiments with genuinely satisfying results, the kind that feel less like a toy and more like an actual achievement. For children who are into gaming and technology, kids tablets and educational tech are also worth exploring.
One important thing to keep in mind when shopping for this age group is that children between nine and twelve are increasingly aware of what their friends have and what feels age-appropriate to them. A toy that feels too young will not get much use regardless of how good it is. The best picks for tweens tend to be things that double as a hobby or skill, something they can get better at over time and show off a little. Brands like LEGO, Hasbro Games, and Fat Brain all have excellent options for this range. FAQs
What are the best toys for 9 and 10 year olds?
Science kits, LEGO Technic sets, RC cars, strategy board games, and robotics kits are among the best options for nine and ten year olds. At this age, toys that build a real skill or produce a tangible result tend to go down much better than purely entertainment-based options.
What do 11 and 12 year olds want as gifts?
Children aged eleven and twelve tend to prefer gifts that feel grown-up and match their specific interests. Popular choices include advanced LEGO sets, science experiment kits, Rubik’s Cubes, board games, arts and craft supplies, and RC vehicles. Following their existing hobbies is usually the safest and most appreciated approach.
Are toys still appropriate for 12 year olds?
Absolutely. Twelve year olds may be approaching their teenage years but they still benefit enormously from hands-on, skill-building play. The key is choosing things that feel age-appropriate, like advanced construction sets, science kits, strategy games, or creative tools rather than toys designed for much younger children.
What is a cool toy for a 10-year-old in Nigeria?
Big remote control cars, science experiment kits, LEGO sets, Rubik’s Cubes, and robotics kits are consistently popular with ten-year-olds in Nigeria. Something that feels impressive, works well, and gives them something to master tends to be the most appreciated gift at this age. DailyKidFinds stocks a range of these with delivery across Lagos and Nigeria.
