The six to nine age group is one of the most rewarding to shop for because children at this stage know exactly what they want and get genuinely absorbed in the things they love. They are past the baby and toddler stage but not yet teenagers, which means they are in a sweet spot where play is still central to their lives but the toys they engage with are increasingly complex, creative, and skill-building.
For boys aged six to nine, some of the most popular choices in Nigeria include remote control cars, LEGO sets, action figures, science kits, and board games. Boys at this age tend to gravitate towards toys that involve speed, building, and competition. For girls in the same age range, arts and craft sets, dolls and playsets, board games, and educational toys consistently come out on top. That said, the best approach is always to follow your child’s specific interests rather than defaulting to gender assumptions. A girl who loves LEGO or a boy who loves art supplies should absolutely have those things.
This is also the age where educational toys start to feel genuinely engaging rather than just instructional. Science experiment kits, strategy board games, coding toys, and construction sets all challenge children in this age group in ways that are fun first and educational second. Brands like LEGO, Fat Brain, Hasbro Games, and Wonderstuff all have excellent options for six to nine-year-olds.
